Firdous Ashiq Awan And Her Desperate Housewife Moments

There’s a Firdous Ashiq Awan in almost all Pakistani women. Don’t be hurt, just read through and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Every single person worries about his or hers reputation, In fact, it would be weird not to. Nobody likes getting embarrassed in front of anyone. But I guess politicians; especially Pakistani politicians have never cared whether someone insulted them, threw a tomato at them or publicly humiliated them. The chances are that this will probably never bother them.
Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, the current Minister of Information and Broadcasting has had many memorable moments. Two of which were the most popular ones,
1)  Her sudden resignation: Firdous Apa had cried in front of national television back in 2011, when she submitted her resignation to the Prime Minister which wasn’t accepted. She had claimed that there was irrelevant interference in her ministry by outsiders. The part that made me laugh was she had complained to the PM about one of her bureaucrat colleagues’ “rude” behavior with her.
Seriously? Is this even an issue? She cried over her ministry slipping out of her hands, complained to the PM like a fourth grade student weeping in front of the principal to punish the other students.
2) Her heated up fight with Kashmala Tariq: Kashamala Tariq, leader of the PML-LM, accused Awan of being a lota ( a person who changes parties) on national television. Obviously, Firdous Apa was not going to keep quiet but no one would’ve expected her to say this,” At least I didn’t come down from Heera Mandi (red light area in Lahore).”
Kashmala had laughed out loud, making Awan madder who lost control of her tongue and the words slipped out of her mouth,”At least I never used bedrooms to gain favours in politics”.
There’s no need to be shocked and certainly no need to abuse or criticize the two women. This seems to happen in our daily lives in Pakistan where people accuse people of things they haven’t done. Have you ever seen the female characters shown in Pakistani Dramas? They’re all speaking in an illiterate manner, accusing other women, back-biting, or even hitting them. I don’t have to name the dramas, you can guess them for yourself.
Women in our society are enemies of women. I bet you’ve heard that many times. Don’t you think Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Kashmala Tariq and the other female politicians depict the personality of ordinary Pakistani women? Why do we complain about our ministers when they’re just like us? But isn’t it true? Can’t they respect each other? Is it necessary to abuse or talk in an abusive manner or tone?
On a serious note, Dr. Firdous would’ve been better off as the Ugly Betty of Pakistani sitcoms instead of being the Minister of Information.
But who am I to say this? Just look at her luck, she sits in the Parliament today and makes decisions that our lives depend on. Is she really ruining her reputation or are we?
