WORST KIND OF MASSIVE KILLING IN THE WORLD

Bosnia (1991-1995)

The Bosnian Genocide took place in Bosnia, between 1991-1995. It was done by the Bosnian Serbs (antagonists) with support from the Yugoslavian Army and aimed towards the Bosnian people (protagonists). The cause was the different ethnic divisions in the country, the Serbians were Orthodox, and the Bosnian were mostly Muslim, and the Croats who were Catholic. In conclusion of the genocide many died because of the war that happened due to the ‘difference’ in religion. The nationalism was that in the end it was decided that the Croatian state would be made for Croats and the Serbian state for the Serbs(1981-1983)

The Mayan genocide took place in Guatemala, from 1981-1983. The Guatemalan army attacked the Mayan Indians(protagonists), as the Guatemalan government (antagonists) , using the Guatemalan Army and its counter-insurgency force, began a systematic campaign of repressions and suppression against the Mayan Indians, in which they claimed were working towards an communist coup. The ultranationalism took place when the Guatemalan army believed that the Mayan Indians were working towards an communist coup which led to the repression and suppression. The outcomess in regards to nationalism was when church leaders helped peasants to reclaim unwanted marshland, build co-operative villages and sustain both their traditional culture despite the on-going civil war.

The Herero genocide took place in German South-West Africa now known as Namibia between 1904-1905. The German Troops (antagonists) targeted the Herero people and troops, because the German emperor, Von Trotha was angry about the resistance to German colonization by East Africa, so he brought with him 10,000 armed men and a plan for war.  The outcomes of the genocide in regards to nationalism and ultranationalism are that  ‘All the Herero must leave the land. If they refuse, then I will force them to do it with the big guns. Any Herero found within German borders, with or without a gun, will be shot. No prisoners will be taken. This is my decision for the Herero people’. -Von Trotha. He would force them to leave their land even though he does not own it. As a result with more than 60,000 Herero people dead some had escaped the killings.

The main groups involved were the British Colonists (antagonists) and the Tasmanian Aboriginals (protagonists) who were being targeted. The main cause was the British’s need for power so they would destroy any threat to this need for power and land. These are the UN, U.S, France, Canada, Australia, Vietnam,  and Thailand. The Cambodian Genocide was politically motivated. Religious leaders, intellectuals, former members of the non communist government and military, and people who were literate were targeted. The leader of the Khmer Rouge government killed these people to make the communist government more powerful. Towards the end of the genocide, Cambodia becomes less intelligent as a nation. This made the government very powerful because the citizens would now follow and believe them.  Other nations got involved to help Cambodia and they ended up not giving the Khmer Rouge power again.

The reason for this Genocide was that Hitler thought he was doing the country a good thing by ’cleansing’ of all the Jewish people including the ones that didn’t agree with him because they threatened his power and felt they were not nationalists of Germany. The outcomes of this genocide include a number of broke apart families and a crumbling nation.
