From Manmohan to Musharraf: Politicians who topped the 'boot list'











An engineer in his early twenties threw a shoe at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh while he was addressing an election rally in Ahmedabad in 2009. The shoe, however, missed its mark. The offender identified as Hitesh Chauhan, had thrown the shoe to secure publicity.






It all started with an Iraqi TV journalist Muntadar al-Zaidi throwing a shoe at George W Bush during a press conference in Iraq. The journalist, before hurling the shoe at Bush, said, “this is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog.” 





A German student had hurled a shoe at former Chinese premier Wen Jiabao during his visit to Cambridge University in Britain.





Former telecom minister Sukh Ram was attacked by Harvinder Singh on the premises of Rohini court complex after his sentencing in a 1996 telecom scam case.










A slipper was hurled at former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa during a rally in April 2009.







Hindi daily Dainik Jagran journalist Jarnail Singh hurled his shoes at P Chidambaram at the Congress headquarters. The journalist's action was motivated by the Union minister's refusal to discuss Congress leader Jagdish Tytler's alleged involvement in the 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases.





A former lawyer hurled a slipper at tainted former chief of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Suresh Kalmadi while the leader was on his way to Patiala House Court





Former Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal was attacked during a public meet in Lucknow when a person tried to hurl a shoe at him. Earlier, Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan was also attacked in his office for his remarks on Jammu and Kashmir.





A shoe was hurled at Team Anna members during a public rally in Dehradun. The attacker said he had thrown the shoe to oppose Anna Hazare's "only one slap" remark when NCP chief Sharad Pawar was slapped by a youth.



Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar was slapped by a youth who claimed to be angry with corruption and price rise. The same person had assaulted former telecom minister Sukh Ram outside a Delhi court after he was sentenced in a corruption case.



A lawyer lobbed a shoe at former Pakistani military dictator Pervez Musharraf, when he appeared at a court in Karachi on March 29, in a bid to satisfy his mother who hated the ex-president for the 2007 Lal Masjid operation. The shoe fell a few feet in front of Musharraf, who was surrounded by security personnel and TV cameramen. Earlier in 2011, a man had tried to hurl his shoe at Musharraf during a public address in Britain.
